Matthew Amster Promoted to Partner

(MIAMI) Feb. 2, 2015 – Bercow Radell & Fernandez, consistently ranked among the region’s top firms in zoning, land use and environmental law, is pleased to announce that Matthew Amsterhas been promoted from Senior Associate to Partner.

Matthew has a strong personal and professional interest in the environment, which is the focus of his law practice. Prior to entering the field of law, he was a field inspector and code enforcement officer at Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) and was also certified as a State Visual Emissions Inspector.

He obtained valuable legal experience working as a law clerk at the United States District Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida in the Environmental Crimes Division. He also clerked in maritime law at a Miami law firm and assisted the legal affairs division of Everglades National Park.

He is a member of the Environmental and Land Use Law and the City, County and Local Government Law Sections of the Florida Bar and the Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources of the American Bar Association.

Matthew contributes a significant amount of pro-bono time to organizations in the community. On behalf of Habitat for Humanity, he obtained over 70 zoning approvals necessary to permit the building of close to 100 homes for low-income families, including the sites of Habitat’s 2011 and 2012 “Blitz Builds.”

Matthew attended Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, graduating with distinction in all subjects. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 2005.

He was a member of the University of Miami Moot Court Board; Treasurer of the Bar and Gavel Society; President of the Environmental Law Society; and a member of PAD and the Cardozo Legal Society. He received two Dean’s Certificates of Achievement, one in Administrative Law and one in Environmental Legal Research.

He joined Bercow Radell & Fernandez as a summer associate in 2004.
