CLIENT NEWS: Tesla facility planned in Miami-Dade County

The owner of a warehouse in Miami Gardens could repurpose it for a Tesla collision center.

The City Council will consider the application for the 64,059-square-foot warehouse on the 3.5-acre site at 1600 N.W. 165th Street on June 24. EV 1600 LLC, an affiliate of North Miami Beach-based Elion Partners, wants a parking reduction from 245 spaces to 140 spaces and to make interior improvements to the warehouse. That would set up 26 internal bays for EV repairs.

Officials with Elion Partners couldn’t be reached for comment about the plans. The developer is working with engineering firm Kimley Horn on the site plan.Tesla already has a large presence in Miami Gardens. It has a dealership and showroom at 20850 N.W. 2nd Ave., but the repairs made there are less intensive than at a collision center. Tesla Miami Gardens was the No. 1 ranked auto dealership in South Florida in the Business Journal’s Book of Lists, so it’s no surprise that Tesla wants to expand services to its growing number of drivers.

Tesla is also opening a showroom and service center in Kendall after signing a lease earlier this year.

Unlike most automotive companies, which work with franchise dealers that often do collision repair, Tesla exclusively handles car sales and it runs its own collision and repair shops, although Tesla owners may also take their vehicles for repairs at third-party shops that have been certified by Tesla.
