CLIENT NEWS: Catch Miami Beach set to open on South Pointe Drive

May 23, 2024

Catch Hospitality Group will open its namesake seafood restaurant in Miami Beach on May 10.

The New York-based firm initially announced its Catch restaurant would make its debut in 2023 at 200 South Pointe Drive, but the opening was pushed a year.

Catch Miami Beach is in the city’s affluent South of Fifth neighborhood. The two-floor restaurant will occupy 23,000 square feet with indoor dining space and a retractable roof open-air terrace.

Rockwell Group, a New York-based architecture and planning firm, handled Catch Miami Beach’s design – a blend of Art Deco and Mediterranean architecture.

“This Miami opening signifies our seventh Catch restaurant nationwide, and it’s among one of our most anticipated debuts,” said Mark Birnbaum, founder and partner of Catch Hospitality Group. “Miami offers the perfect backdrop for our brand. Securing this incredible location has enabled us to deliver the quintessential high-energy dining experience we’re renowned for; and we’re eager to bring our unique blend of service, style, and cuisine to this vibrant community.”

Catch Miami Beach is located within a retail space that’s next door to the high-end Continuum on South Beach condominium complex.

Black Lion, a Los Angeles-based commercial real estate investment and development firm, purchased the space in 2022 for $11.5 million, according to Traded, a real estate transaction news website.

Catch Hospitality Group signed a 15-year lease with Black Lion. The property was built in 2014 and is near other highly acclaimed restaurants in Miami Beach, such as Joe’s Stone Crab, Carbone and Milos.

The upscale restaurant serves globally influenced seafood, including ceviche, sushi and Cantonese lobster.

Catch Hospitality Group, formerly EMM Group, was founded in 2006 by Birnbaum, a hospitality entrepreneur, and Eugene Remm, an experienced restaurateur. They established Catch in 2011 and opened their first location in New York City.

Texas billionaire Tilman J. Fertitta acquired half ownership of Catch Hospitality Group in 2017. He’s a partner of the firm. Outside of Catch, Fertitta is the owner and CEO of Fertitta Entertainment, Inc., which owns the restaurant giant Landry’s, Inc., the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinos and the Houston Rockets NBA team.

He previously said Miami Beach has “experienced tremendous growth over the last few years,” so opening a Catch restaurant in the city seemed like a good fit.

Catch Hospitality Group operates two restaurant concepts: Catch and Catch Steak. Currently, the company has locations in NYC, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Aspen. The company plans to expand to Dallas and Scottsdale, Arizona.
