Holiday Inn proposed near Miami International Mall

January 12, 2018

A Holiday Inn Express Hotel has been proposed at the Miami International Mall in Doral.

On Jan. 17, the city council will consider an application for a five-story hotel at 1691 N.W. 107th Ave. The 45,149-square-foot triangle-shaped site currently has a 19,626-square-foot office building from 1986.

That building would be demolished to construct a 50,170-square-foot hotel with 75 rooms, a pool and a fitness room. There would be 45 parking spaces on the property and an additional 35 spaces at the parking lot of the adjoining Miami International Mall.

The applicant is the current property owner, Paloma Building LLC, owned by Ernesto Miguel Palma and Ricardo Miguel, which acquired the property for $3.45 million in 2015.

The hotel was designed by Carlos Ramos Architects.

Miami attorney Melissa Tapanes Llahueswho represents the applicant, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. The application noted that the development plan for the Miami International Mall allowed for up to 500 hotel rooms, but none have been built so far.

As Doral’s population has exploded and tourism to Miami-Dade County has increased, Miami International Mall has been busy, especially for international shoppers. The mall is a few miles west of Miami International Airport.

Doral is one of Miami-Dade’s largest employment centers, so there’s a lot of business travel there.

This will be a first reading hearing, so a second vote for the project would be required by the city council at a later date. — Brian Bandell
